In my opinion one of the most important skills in business (which I would even put ahead of intelligence) is the ability to network, create, and foster business relationships.
You can be the smartest person in the world or have the greatest product or service available, but if you do not use your networking ability to its fullest advantage in order to build relationships and share your passion for what you do, you will never find anyone to sell to or collaborate with.
Networking can work wonders in the business world. At the end of the day, if you do not put yourself out there and create relationships with other business people, you may lose out on many amazing opportunities and important contacts that can be beneficial to your business in the future.
There are networking groups and opportunities everywhere. My suggestion is to search for events on a weekly basis and make it a point to attend at least once or twice a month. Believe me, you will be pleasantly surprised at how powerful of a component networking can be when it comes to meeting the right people.
Just remember… whenever you are nervous about making an introduction, stay positive and keep in mind that the ‘someone’ you’re introducing yourself to could be a career or life changer.
